Boko Haram bombs mosque

Boko Haram sect haa started a campaign in different part of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital as they hit three different towns between Friday and Saturday. In the various attacks, 39 people were killed and 47 injured in the attacks.

             

The latest of the attack is at a mosque on Saturday afternoon, the suicide bomber had entered the mosque as a worshipper, strapped with an IED, exploded himself and the worshippers. 26 people were confirmed dead and 28 injured at the Alhaji Haruna mosque.

The bomber had came into the mosque around 3:30pm just after the afternoon prayers.

          The roof was blown off and fire destroyed the mats and a few (copies of the) Koran,” i personally counted 9 corpses, a trader, Nura Khalid, told AFP

The attack came a few hours after the sect had attacked a wedding ceremony in Tashan-Alede, a village located in Hawul Local Government Area, 270 kilometres from Maiduguri, killing six people and wounding about 30.

Security operatives and witnesses said that Boko Haram member launched an RPG into a building at around 1a.m.

Another town that was attacked by the terrorist group is Dala Suburb. A resident said he had about 40 different explosions before he lost count.

Each time they fired into the town, we see bright sparkling light, which moved with great speed passing over our houses.

The exact number of death toll in the Dala suburb was not ascertain as emergency workers were not present to comment on the incident.

Three senior security sources in Maiduguri who were not authorised to speak publicly said the attack had been repelled.

“All is under control. There is no cause for alarm,” one of those sources told AFP.

        The sound of RPGs and gunfire had also eased, residents and an AFP reporter said.
