Russian Sentenced For 28 Years For Cocaine Smuggling In Cambodia

Phnom Penh: Elizaveta Maximova, 28, a Russian, has been sentenced  for smuggling cocaine into Cambodia from Brazil in April 2014. She was caught smuggling 5kg of coccaine at the Phnom Penh International airport.

Maximova was sentenced to 28 years in prison and will also pay $12,500 as fine into the national budget, presiding judge, Sok Leng said during the sentence yesterday in Cambodia. 

According to a police lieutenant Colonel Chab Sameng, 4..96kg of liquid cocaine were found in a plastic-wrapped bottles.

Maximova had denied the drugs and accuses his Nigerian boyfriend, Joe of putting the drugs in her luggage and she has no idea of the drugs in her bag :

  I did not know that Joe’s things were liquid drugs, and were illegal things. If I have known it, I would not bring it with me or be involved with it,” she said
