Rio Olympics 2016

The small Island of Fiji after 16 appearances in the Olympics now has gotten its first medal, and its gold medals. The Fiji sevens routed with Great Britain to win the gold medal on Thursday. The team won the Great Britain, 43-7, as the GB team could not stop the Fiji team as they seems to be fast and also overwhelmed by their size.

                 

Seven different Fiji players scored in the match.

The Olympic medal table stand at USA with 16 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze. The second on the table is China with 11 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze

One of the reasons for the Olympics is to bring countries together under one roof in the name of sports, and seems Rio Olympics might have produced one of the most powerful picture that could unite the North and South together.

                     

It all happened when Gymnasts Lee Eun-ju of South Korea and Hong Un-Jong of North Korea posed for a quick selfie, an occurrence that many won't have thought could happen, as the relationship between both countries after world war II has been frosty.

                      

The whole enmity was put aside when the two young beautiful soul decided to take a selfie.

Hong is a veteran gymnast and the first gymnast from North Korea to win a medal when she took home gold in vault at the 2008 games in Beijing

The first day of Rio set on a bad start for French gymnast, Samir Ait Said, who had a brutal injuring while vaulting during team preliminaries on Sunday. According to spectators, the gymnast landed awfully and the snap on his leg echoed through the arena.

Virginia Thrasher of Team USA has won the first Gold medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. The 19 year old stood her ground when she won two former Olympic champions of the game, to clinch the women's 10m air rifle event.

Thrasher faced China's Du Li, gold in Athens in 2004, with an Olympic-record score of 208 in the sport's new finals format. Defending Olympic champion Yi Siling to get the gold. She is also the youngest of the eight finalists of the game.

                      

Thrasher said;

About halfway through when I took the lead it kind of became clear to me that I was in contention for a medal, but I quickly pushed that thought away and focused on breathing and taking one shot at a time.

She has been shooting with her grandfather when she was in eighth grade. She then joined the high school rifle team and was recruited by West Virginia University, where she became a national collegiate champion as a freshman this year.

"I got my first deer and I liked the adrenaline of pulling the trigger," she said.

When she was asked about the most disturbing issue in America, gun control, Thrasher said;

She responded matter of fact that the controversy over guns in America "really is just distracting from our sport, which is very different."

 

After 64 years, Vietnam has finally made history by winning its first ever gold in Rio Olympics 2016. The country won its first ever gold in men’s 10 meter air pistol on Saturday, thanks to 41 year old, Hoang Xuan Vinh.

               

Hoang had competed in the 2012 Olympics in London, but fails to make the final by a single point and finished 9th in the 10 meter air pistol. And also another heartbreak happened to him when he was crushed to the fourth place in the 50 meter air pistol, and lost the bronze medal by 0.1 points.

Hoang changed his destiny in Rio, and refused to be fighting for the third place, he instead went for gold. He was on a very tough one with Felipe Almeida Wu. And at the end of the game, Hoàng was able to win his opponent by 0.4 points.

Hoàng total overall score was 202.5,and he also set a new Olympic record due to a new scoring system being adopted following the 2012 London Olympics.
